Qu’est l’homme à l’échelle de la galaxie ? Et de l’univers entier ? Les nombres y sont si grand que l’on ne peut qu’être frappé par l’immensité du vide intersidéral et la majesté des étoiles lointaines. La terre n’y est qu’une insignifiante poussière peuplée d’encore plus insignifiantes créatures. Le rêve spatial des années cinquante américaines valorisant l’unité de la terre reste malheureusement du domaine de l’utopie.

Plusieurs romanciers se sont essayés à décrire l’avancée dans l’abime intergalactique, l’éloignement croissant des étoiles et l’avancée dans le grand vide. Les impacts psychologiques sur les femmes et les hommes engagés, les rencontres avec des créatures étranges…

Le tableau présente en arrière plan les piliers de la création de la nébuleuse de l‘Aigle tels que capturés pas le télescope James Webb à l’automne 2022.

What is man on the scale of the galaxy? And of the whole universe? The numbers are so great that one can only be struck by the immensity of the interstellar void and the majesty of the distant stars. The earth is only an insignificant dust populated by even more insignificant creatures. The space dream of the American fifties valuing the unity of the earth remains unfortunately in the domain of utopia.

Several novelists have tried to describe the advance into the intergalactic abyss, the increasing distance from the stars and the advance into the great void. The psychological impacts on the men and women involved, the encounters with strange creatures…

The painting presents in the background the pillars of the creation of the Eagle Nebula as captured by the James Webb Telescope in the fall of 2022
