La vue de l’espace typique de la série Retour à l’espace est coupée par la fusée qui se dirige vers la porte entre les univers. La terre est visible en arrière plan. L’allégorie de la porte d’entrée vers un autre univers est basée sur les passages par un trou de ver. De nombreux romans utilisent cette idée, soit comme trame principale, soit comme moyen de transport faisant partie de l’univers en question.

Le principe est, en théorie, exécutable dans la réalité. C’est un phénomène scientifique déjà prédit par Einstein. Un trou de ver est, en astrophysique, un objet hypothétique qui relierait deux régions distinctes de l’espace-temps et se manifesterait, d’un côté, comme un trou noir et, de l’autre côté, comme un trou blanc.

L’utilisation du raccourci à travers un trou de ver  permettrait un voyage du point A directement au point B en un temps considérablement réduit par rapport au temps qu’il faudrait pour parcourir la distance séparant ces deux points de manière linéaire.

La preuve scientifique de l’existence des trous de ver reste à être fournie.

The view of space typical of the Return to Space series is cut by the rocket heading towards the door between the universes. The earth is visible in the background. The allegory of the gateway to another universe is based on wormhole passages. Many novels use this idea, either as the main plot or as a means of transport into the universe in question.

The principle is, in theory, executable in reality. It is a scientific phenomenon already predicted by Einstein. A wormhole is, in astrophysics, a hypothetical object that would connect two distinct regions of space-time and manifest itself, on one side, as a black hole and on the other as a white hole.

Using the shortcut through a wormhole would allow travel from point A directly to point B in considerably less time than it would take to travel the distance between these two points in a linear fashion.

Scientific proof of the existence of wormholes has yet to be provided.
