Tout d’abord intitulé passage dans l’entre-espace, ce classique tableau de la série « retour à l’espace » comporte plusieurs tableaux l’un sur l’autre. Impossible de lui faire dire ce qui était initialement prévu ;o).

L’espace est vaste.. à la vitesse de la lumière il faudrait 45 milliards d’années pour y aller d’un point à l’autre. Raison pour laquelle de nombreux romanciers ont cherché à raccourcir les distances en passant dans une autre dimension, par un trou noir (et blanc) ou en sautant à travers le tissus même de l’espace.

Au centre d’un trou noir se situe une région dans laquelle le champ gravitationnel et certaines distorsions de l’espace-temps (on parle plutôt de courbure de l’espace-temps) divergent à l’infini, quel que soit le changement de coordonnées.

Certains romanciers ont donc imaginé entrer dans un trou noir pour en ressortir ailleurs, peut-être par un trou blanc.

Le trou blanc, aussi appelé fontaine blanche, est un objet théorique susceptible d’exister au sens où il peut être décrit par les lois de la relativité générale, mais dont l’existence dans l’Univers est considérée comme hautement spéculative. Il est décrit par certaines solutions mathématiques de type trou noir dans lequel des géodésiques sont issues d’une singularité gravitationnelle ou d’un horizon. Il formerait ainsi le symétrique par rapport au temps d’un trou noir, puisque dans un cas rien ne peut s’échapper d’un trou noir, et dans l’autre rien ne peut pénétrer dans une fontaine blanche.

Bref tout ça pour dire que les explorateurs spatiaux sont très certainement toujours très heureux de retrouver la banlieue terrestre (avec l’expansion permanente de l’univers, les calculs de géolocalisation ne doivent pas être simples).

Originally entitled passage through the sub-space, this classic painting from the “return to space” series features several paintings on top of one another. Impossible to make it say what was originally intended ;o).

Space is vast… at the speed of light, it would take 45 billion years to get from one side to the ther. This is why many novelists have sought to shorten distances by passing through another dimension, through a black (and white) hole, or by leaping through the very fabric of space itself.

At the center of a black hole is a region in which the gravitational field and certain distortions in space-time (known as space-time curvature) diverge infinitely, whatever the change in coordinates.

Some novelists have therefore imagined entering a black hole and emerging elsewhere, perhaps through a white hole.

The white hole, also known as the white fountain, is a theoretical object that may exist in the sense that it can be described by the laws of general relativity, but whose existence in the Universe is considered highly speculative. It is described by certain mathematical solutions of the black hole type, in which geodesics arise from a gravitational singularity or horizon. It would thus form the time symmetrical of a black hole, since in one case nothing can escape from a black hole, and in the other nothing can enter a white fountain.

All this to say that space explorers are certainly always happy to find the suburbs of Earth (with the universe constantly expanding, geolocation calculations can’t be easy).
