Lors de son périgée, la lune est la plus proche de la terre à 356’500 km (un peu plus d’une seconde à la vitesse de la lumière). Durant une révolution complète (27 jours, 13 heures, 18 minutes), la Lune passe d’un périgée à l’autre, ce qui définit le cycle appelé “révolution anomalistique”. Quand la pleine Lune coïncide avec le périgée, on assiste à ce qu’on appelle communément une superlune : le satellite paraît jusqu’à 14% plus grand et 30% plus lumineux qu’une pleine Lune à l’apogée.

La peinture « orbite proche » illustre cette super lune (phosphorescente) en opposition et vue depuis un autre satellite (non défini). La fusée vient à peine troubler le calme et la majesté de l’instant. A cette distance la planète est paisible et les microbes qui s’y ébattent à la surface sont vraiment insignifiants.  
Le mélange de micropaillettes brillantes dans la peinture n’apporte pas grand-chose à la toile ;o).

At its perigee, the moon is closest to Earth at 356,500 km (just over a second at the speed of light). During a complete revolution (27 days, 13 hours, 18 minutes), the Moon passes from one perigee to another, defining the cycle known as the ‘anomalistic revolution’. When the full moon coincides with the perigee, we witness what is commonly known as a supermoon: the satellite appears up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than a full moon at apogee.

The painting ‘close orbit’ illustrates this supermoon (phosphorescent) in opposition and seen from another satellite (undefined). The rocket barely disturbs the calm and majesty of the moment. At this distance, the planet is peaceful and the microbes frolicking on its surface are truly insignificant.
The mixture of shiny micro-glitter in the painting does not add much to the canvas ;o).
